This is a Tamarisk 29, constructed by North Cornwall marine in 1980, which later became Cygnus Marine, this vessel embodies the design of a traditional Cornish working boat, featuring a straight stem, long keel, and transom stern.
The hull design of the Tamarisk 29 is taken directly from one of the fastest and most sea-kindly of the surviving Falmouth fishing boats. Mostly built in the early years of last century these craft represent the culmination of centuries of developments of small general purpose sailing boats. These Falmouth working boats continue to dredge for oysters under sail during the winter and in the summer the boats are raced in the waters off Falmouth. Her sister ships of old waited off the lizard in all weathers to offer pilotage and tender facilities to the large sailing ships bound for Falmouth.
She boasts a robust GRP hull built to Whitefish standards, complemented by wooden and GRP decks and coachroof. Her classic lines often lead observers to mistake her for a traditional wooden working boat. Her substantial ballast ratio contributes to her excellent stability and stiffness.
The mast is spruce with a Kevlar covering, the boom is laminated cedar and the gaff and bowsprit are aluminium.
She has a high ballast to displacement ratio with a fully encapsulated lead ballast that gives good sailing performance. She is equipped with main, jib, staysail and cruising chute. Sail controls are lead back to the cockpit that allows easy single handed sailing.
Florence has been owned by the family since new, with many receipts available, including the original invoice for the hull. Ideally suited for a family or 4 or 5 , we have had 7 for week long holidays but 5 sets of growing legs have led to a reluctant sale and a hunt for a bigger boat. She has been loving maintained and want for nothing and is ready to sail in the 2025 season.
2023 insurance survey available.
Located in Clyde boatyard on the hard, but could be launched and taken to Fairlie for a test sail for interested parties.
