Sturdy classic 5-berth blue-water-capable motor-sailer No 83 of 142 designed and built by the renowned Reg Freeman ARINA in the period 1964-74. Reputedly, two of the class have completed global circumnavigations. Jacarah dates from 1970.
Undergoing renovation and several aspects currently non-operational, hence offered at a discounted price as ill health and advancing years force her sale.

Forepeak: Chain locker, stowage shelves, step to foredeck hatch, flushing heads, sink with fresh water pump, stowage lockers, wet locker, mainmast electrics relays and fuses, door to saloon.
Saloon: Single berths port and starboard with stowage below and behind. To rear of these:
to starboard: nav. station with folding chart table and instrument displays, electrics panel and switches, etc. Chart table folds up to clear the pilot berth which continues down a tunnel behind the starboard cockpit bench locker. This tunnel provides extra stowage space when not required as a fifth berth.
to port: the galley consists of a swivelling butane 2-burner hob and oven, sink with fresh and seawater pumps, worktop, cupboards and drawers.
The steps from the cockpit incorporate waste bin and tool drawer. The steps remove to provide access to a bulkhead hatch giving access to front of engine (alternator belt and water pump).
Other equipment: diesel heater, clock, barometer, stereo cd player/fm radio and speakers, folding table, central hatch to cabin top.
Aft Cabin: berths to port and starboard for either two singles or a very cosy double with stowage under. Access to prop shaft and to anode bolts and earthing connections. Shelves provide additional storage.
The 30ft GRP hull is long-keeled, making it a great sea boat. This centre keel has been epoxy capped by a previous owner for cruising the French canals. Substantial glass fibre bilge keels are foil shaped to improve windward capability. They provide 200L of fresh water capacity and stiffen her stability. Substantial original teak rubbing strake. Centre cockpit, accessing both main saloon and rear cabins under canopy. Hull gel coats were apparently backed by woven roving, helping to minimise osmosis. Hulls are very substantial: 12mm thick topsides, and well stiffened. Main and mizzen masts are both tabernacle-mounted, making for much easier raising and lowering. Advised modification of the addition of a vertical bracing beam between keel and coach roof appears to have been done in the construction of Jacarah rather than a retro-fit.
Centre cockpit: Wheel steering, engine controls, autohelm controls, NASA sounder display, self-stowing washboards to saloon and aft cabin, self-draining bench lockers with manual bilge pump, fuel tank caps, fuel cut-off controls, gas canisters and anchor winch isolator as well as general stowage. Bench cushions, stowable table, genoa sheet winches, mainsheet, mizzen sheet and mizzen halyard. Cockpit floor consists of soundproofed engine hatches which can be latched to hold tight in extreme weather. Cockpit drains to fore and rear. The canopy is in two halves: the rear can be removed, the fore either folded down onto the fixed windscreen or removed completely when the weather allows.
Deck Gear: 25 K bowser anchor and chain, electric anchor winch, kedge anchor with chain and cable,
2 Lewmar sheet winches, mainmast halyard winch, full/half cockpit canopy, spray dodgers,
16 mm mooring lines, fenders, jackstays, horseshoe buoy with light, ensign staff, mainmast foredeck light, mizzen mast deck light. Dorade vents greatly improve ventilation and significantly diminish winter condensation.

Inboard engine is a Ford 1.6L 60 HP diesel marinised by Lancing Marine and installed in 2000. Lancing Marine can still offer parts and advice. Drive is through a Borg Warner Velvet Drive Gearbox, serviced by Lancing Marine in 2014, direct shaft to 3-bladed fixed propeller. Produces 40 HP at about 2,000 RPM, which drives her comfortably at about 5 knots.
Masthead Genoa - furling gear is operated from cockpit - genoa sheeted at Lewmar winches at cockpit
Mainsail - with reefing points, lazy jacks
Mizzen sail - old but does the job
Sails are red in colour - see main picture
Blue sail covers match the spray dodgers and canopy
Main mast: not much longer than the boat length - handy for canal cruising
Mizzen mast tabernacle is mounted at rear of cockpit - sail can be hoist from cockpit
Both masts have steps, allowing access to masthead heights without ladders (use a safety line, though!)
See main photo for sails, masts, spray dodgers, folded canopy at cockpit
