Built in 1989, N3309 (“Silent Knight”) is an excellent example of the Crusader 88 design by Phil Morrison. Those familiar with National 12s will know that the 88 version of the Crusader is a solid performer, coasting brilliantly in light winds and easily popping up on the plane in a breeze, making her an ideal starting point for anyone interested in sailing these sought after classics.
I bought “Silent Knight” with my dad about ten years ago with intention of sailing her at our local club on Strathclyde Loch. The boat was fast and fun, and we enjoyed a few finishes slightly higher up in the fleet than we were used to achieving (in the club Wayfarer!).
I started university in Aberdeen after our first year of ownership and regrettably we have not had any further use. Since then, she has been stored in my parents’ garage like a trophy. However, now we feel that is only fair to pass the boat on to owners who will use it more regularly than we ever did, as was intended.
N3309 is finished to a high standard. She benefits from having been in dry storage for at least the last 10 years and has recently undergone renovations including a fully re-varnished deck, polished chrome fittings, and a flawless red paint job on the hull (please see photos).
Spars, sheets, shackles, centre board and dagger board are all in good condition and sails (jib and main) are perfect for club use. Adjustable fittings are fully calibrated and ready for racing. Top cover is in good condition and bottom cover is well used but perfectly serviceable.
Boat comes complete with a combi trailer (road trailer/launch trolley), ratchet straps, lighting board and extension cable.
Please see all photos to appreciate the high-quality finish.
