Year Of Build: 1962/63 She was displayed as the Moody main exhibit at the 1963 Boat Show.
Builder: A.H. Moody & Sons
The vessel is currently at Fairlie Quay for under cover winter storage and professional painting of the hull will be completed by professional painter March 2025.
The current owner has looked after the boat since 2007. In 2008, whilst moored in Elba she was dismasted by a ship with mechanical problems. A new mast was supplied by Collars. Work to tidy the hull was carried out by T. Nielsens at Gloucester Dry Dock.
Subsequently the rigid (non original) roof over the cockpit was replaced in 2011 by a teak framed screen (Priors of Burnham) with Vetus clear view, and a folding canvas top. Whilst at Priors approximately 200 carriage bolts holding the floors were replaced, a new plastic fuel tank installed and other equipment modernised / upgraded. Keel bolts were dropped and inspected.
Majala has on average sailed a couple of thousand miles per annum without problems. She sails well under a light asymmetrical sail and using the mizzen staysail. In bad weather the foresail and mizzen have ensured safe sailing. Her central cockpit has provided dry sailing in wet conditions.
