The INTERNATIONAL H-BOAT is reputed to be the largest keel boat one-design class with well over 5000 examples sailed and raced worldwide. 'Huff & Puff' is a phenomenal boat to sail built by BOTNIA OY (Finland) possibly the most experienced of some 6 + builders. She is responsive and easy to manage; light on the helm and well balanced with the ability to sail upwind that few boats can match. They say most races are won upwind and that is why this class is so popular. A good number of top helm's cut their teeth on sailing H-Boats and this class is so defined by its rules that govern the building of them, winning is down to the crew not the boat. Such a fun boat to sail and you can hook it up and take it anywhere on it's purpose made 4 wheeled trailer. It won't break the bank either!

FORWARD AREA - Two 'V' bunks with storage lockers under and space of a toilet if required - conversation to a double with an infill panel. Hatch to deck for ventilation and escape. Chemical toilet. MAIN SALOON area with seat / bunks (semi-quarter berths) with plenty of storage under and shelving above. Two drawer units are built against the main bulkhead which can serve as a galley is required. Easy access to the bilge area (good cool place for bottles) and a large sliding drawer under the cockpit/companionway provides excellent additional storage for cooking gear and food. The cabin areas are fully lined which together with the teak panelling makes for a cosy and comfortable accommodation for overnighting (no cushions fitted).
The cockpit is sizable and works well with 3 crew when racing - the helm has his own space with the mainsheet track dividing the space. All control lines are fed aft the 4 No. winches - two on the coamings and two on the coach roof for sails adjustments. Back stay tension is managed by the helm fed to the main sheet track. The outboard mounts onto a tracked bracket and allows for stowage out of the water when sailing. A large lazarette and seat accessed lockers provide loads of storage for the wet stuff.

Sailing an H-Boat: Having sailed these boats on/off for 45 years, you never lose the satisfaction of how this little boat belies its size and competes competitively alongside the 'big boys' with such ease. They are infinitely adjustable which is the fun of sailing an H-Boat - sail twist and flattening controls allow you to set the boat up for the prevailing wind conditions and you don't have big genoa's to fight with. Tacking is easy, quick and controlled and when the heat is on, you can adjust the control lines to make her easier to manage if the wind pipes up. Once you get the hang of it, the confidence this little boat gives you grows and grows. The other thing to remember, she has a 50% ballast ratio so the boat is more manageable in the gusty conditions to make best use of the power the mainsail generates. It's positively exhilarating to sail!
