Dragonfly is an excellent example of the Dehler 32 JV built in 2011 and has been continuously upgraded and well maintained since. Very lightly used from launch until 2021 when we became her third owners, she is in excellent condition and is a fantastic sailing boat benefiting from the racing/deep keel for added performance.
Practical Boat Owner published a review of the Dehler 32 in January 2012 (https://www.pbo.co.uk/reviews/boats/dehler-32-where-fast-meets-friendly) and their verdict was glowing:
"Some boats just seem to hit the right note, and to my mind the Dehler 32 is one of them. Here’s a cruiser/racer that’s remarkably forgiving and, in relative terms, not expensive. Yet she’s fast, responsive, fun to sail and, I think we’ll find, a competitive race boat. Rather than make her faster and more skittish, her designers chose moderate hull proportions and a relatively deep canoe body to encourage good behaviour. They also stuck to an iron keel and aluminium rig in the interests of keeping the price down. Every boat is a compromise, but as compromises go in terms of handling, performance and price, this is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time."
Dragonfly is a beautiful yacht to sail and is well mannered and easy to handle in all conditions. She is close-winded and very well balanced. The non-overlapping headsail on a Furlex below deck furler, the the Dehler easy reef system and mainsail stackpack/lazyjacks combined with all control lines led back to the cockpit make her easy to sail short-handed or with a full crew.
She was originally specified from new with the "Cruiser Pack" and "Performance Pack" making her an ideal dual purpose yacht, whether you want to cruise or race.
Since 2021 she has taken part in Club racing on the Clyde and Scottish Series/West Highland Yachting Week regattas with success and her ease of handling while short-handed is demonstrated by first place in the Scottish 2 Handed Round Holy Isle race (winner 2023, 2nd in class 2024) and 2nd overall in 2024 Mudhook Yacht Club 2 Handed Series. She has also been cruised extensively around the Clyde and West of Scotland and benefits from a Lewmar Profish 1000 anchor winch (installed 2024) and upgraded (50m 8mm chain and 30m warp) anchor tackle for deep water anchoring.
